Wilson, Richland County’s HS Player of the Year

Richland County Recreation Commission and Richland County Recreation Foundation named RNE Quarterback, Will Wilson, the 2024-2025 Richland County High School Player of the Year for Football. His accomplishments in football include 1846 passing yards for 20 touchdowns and 824 rushing yards for 15 touchdowns. Coaches from each of the 17 high schools in Richland County nominated a player from their team based on their academic performance, football skills, and community involvement. Players’s end-of-the-year stats were considered when coaches and media nominated the top 5 players from Richland 1, Richland 2, and SCISA. Wilson will attend North Carolina State in January.


SCATA/NAFEPA Scholarship DUE in 2 Weeks

The South Carolina Association of Title I Administrators (SCATA)  and the National Association of Federal Education Program Administrators (NAFEPA) are offering scholarships to Title I high seniors. The purpose of the scholarship program is to financially support post-secondary education for qualifying high
school seniors attending their first year of college.

SCATA is offering the following non-renewable scholarships: 1st Place ($2000), 2nd Place ($1500), and 3rd Place ($1000). NAFEPA is distributing four $2,500 non-renewable scholarships. Two scholarships are for students pursuing degrees in education. The other two scholarships will be awarded to applicants pursuing degrees in any field of study. DEADLINE: January 16, 2025


My Street, My Story Winners

Congratulations to Maelyn Carter, Alayna Hills, Zariyah Jefferies, Breana Rich, and Angelica Rojas. Their were winners of the University of South Carolina-Columbia’s My Street, My Story contest. My Street, My Story is a visual and literary arts contest insipired by the Intersection on Main Street: African American Life in Columbia exhibit at the Columbia Museum of Art. In addition to being recognized at the Columbia Museum of Art, they received up to $400 in cash prizes and will have their work publicized in Jasper Magazine and showcased at Richland Library exhibition in the Spring. We would like to thank Ms. Ladymon, Mr. Harrison, and Mr. Ludeman for their encouragment and support to these students.

Free to Focus Cell Phone Policy

The new Free to Focus policy will be implemented at the start of the second semester on January 7, 2025. Under this policy, students must have their cell phones, including any other electronic device, turned off and stored in their bags between 7:40 AM and 3:53 PM. This includes prohibiting earbuds, headphones, iPads, tablets, and smartwatches during this time. Please discuss this new policy with your child as we get closer to returning to school. We will have class meetings on January 7th to discuss the new policy with students as well.

Spring Registration for SAT/ACT Reopens

This is a gentle reminder that the deadline to register for the Spring School Day testing of the ACT or SAT is fast approaching. This is a free opportunity for all 3rd year students and eligible 4th year students to take one of these standardized tests.

Important Dates and Information:

Eligibility for 4th Year Students: Only 4th year students whoย did not take the ACT or SATย during the Fall School Day testing are eligible to register for the Spring session.

Accommodations for Students with IEP or 504 Plans:

  • Students with an IEP or 504 plan who require testing accommodations must submit the completed and signed aย College Board Consentย orย ACT Consentย form to Dr. Myers (mmyers@richland2.org) byย January 5th at 11:59 PM.

Please Note:

  • There will beย no extensionsย orย exceptionsย granted after the deadline as tests need to be ordered in advance.
  • To be eligible to take the test, students must submit the registration form byย January 5th.

We encourage all eligible students to take advantage of this free opportunity to take the ACT or SAT. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s counselor or Dr. Myers (mmyers@richland2.org).
