Senior Shadowing Day, October 12th

All Seniors who have CCR Status will be allowed to participate in Senior Shadowing Day. CCR Seniors are encouraged to job shadow with a family member or close family friend. Senior Shadowing Day forms are available on the Work Based Learning website. All Senior Shadowing Day forms are due by Friday, October 7th. If you are absent on October 12th and did not submit the Senior Shadowing Day forms by the deadline will result in an unexcused absence for October 12th. So get those forms in as soon as possible. Club & Organization Day, September 28th
This Wednesday, we will have an “Activity Day ”. Students will meet with their clubs during lunch. There will also be a presentation from Benedict and Allen University in the courtyard to recognize HBCUs, in recognition of National HBCU week. $500 AES Engineering Scholarship
Award Amount: $500.00
Entry Deadline: October 8, 2022The AES scholarship will be awarded on the basis of character, as determined by an evaluation of the essays that are submitted, and is available to high school seniors and all students attending a post-secondary educational facility. Students are not required to take Engineering courses to be eligible.
Science Honor Society Applications Due Sept 30

Work-Based Learning Credit

Students, do you work off-campus? Did you know that you can earn a Work-Based Learning (WBL) credit and/or your CCR certification? All we need is your signed Supervisor Agreement and the hours you worked at the end of each month. You cannot earn credits without that signed document. Please understand that your hours will not count without the signed Supervisor Agreement. We will keep all paperwork on file for 3 years.
Cavalier Student of the Week

This week’s Cavalier Student of the Week is Wesley Farris. Wesley earned CCR Status by scoring well on the ASVAB Career Assessment and the WorkKeys Exam. If you do not have CCR status, you will be able to participate in testing on October 12th. Congratulations Wesley and to all Seniors who are College and Career Ready! It’s your turn now!

Alpha Academy Applications Due TODAY
The Omicron Iota Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated is now accepting male high school seniors into the Alpha Academy. This program provides mentorship and guidance that assists in preparing the participants for college
and adulthood. Additionally, the aims of the Alpha Academy are to promote academic excellence, leadership development, social enhancement, civic responsibility, and an appreciation for cultural heritage. Interested applicants must complete and submit the application by September 23, 2022. Each selected participant will be required to participate in cultural, educational, and leadership development programs from September 2022 through June 2023.For additional information about the Alpha Academy program and access to the application, click on the image above. Introducing RNH National Merit Semifinalist

On September 14, 2022, the National Merit Scholarship Foundation announced their 2023 National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists. Among the 16,000 names listed was Senior Nathaniel Cason. Nate will have an opportunity to compete for 7,250 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $28 million. About 95 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and approximately half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholarยฎ title. Finalists will compete for one of 2,500 National Meritยฎ $2500 Scholarships and approximately 950 corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarships. Congratulation Nate.

Apply Today – AES Engineering Scholarship
Award Amount: $500.00

Students must submit an essay of between 500 and 1000 words in answer to the following question: When you look back on your life in 30 years, what would it take for you to consider your life successful? What relationships or accomplishments will be important on this journey?

Did you know that College Board’s BigFuture website is awarding two $40,000 scholarships each month? When students in the Class of 2023 complete specific steps on their BigFuture dashboard, they automatically earn entries into drawings for BigFuture Scholarships for use at two- or four-year institutions. Currently, only 60 Cavaliers have added 6 or more schools to their college lists on BigFutureยฎ. Ed-Op College Fair, A Big Success



We want to thank the students, administration, faculty, and staff for the excellent turnout and support for the 2022 Ed-Op College Fair! Without all who were involved and the GEAR Up Student Peer Leaders, the fair would not have been a success.
Cross Country Performs Well @WHS

Several Cross Country runners placed at the Westwood High School Meet. Adelapo Famuyide finished 2nd and Jackson Betette was 3rd for the Varsity Boys team. 8th grader Dani VanDenBerg finished 4th for the Varsity Girls! The team will participate in the PeeDee Classic at Freedom Park in Florence, SC on Saturday, September 24th. Come out and support our Cavaliers!!!

Showing Up Matters, Attendance Spirit Week

Next week is Attendance Matters Spirit Week. A recent survey suggests that chronic absence, which affected one out of six students prior to the pandemic, has tripled. Did you know that missing 10% (18 DAYS) or more days of school is an early warning sign that students are at risk of not reading proficiently by the end of third grade, struggling academically in middle school and dropping out of high school. Let’s show our community that Attendance Matters.
