September is Attendance Awareness Month

This year it is imperative that students attend every class, every day. Did you know that by the 9th grade, attendance is a better predictor of graduation rates than 8th grade test scores. Also, missing 10%, or 2 days a month, over the course of the school year, can affect a student’s academic success

In the South Carolina, students cannot have more than 10 absences in a 45-minute course or 5 absences in a block class. Also, missing 30 minutes (or more) in a block class or 15+ minutes in a 45-minute class is considered an absence. Once students exceed these maximum numbers, they may not received credit for one or more courses due to excessive absences. So it is important that you pay attention to any Attendance phone calls, emails, or letters you may receive. It is important that students ALL excuses to the Front Desk or Attendance Office within 5 days of the absence. If you have any questions, please contact Dr. Myers (mmyers@richland2.org).
