Supporting Excellence: Richland Northeast’s Annual Military Inspection

60 Richland Northeast Seniors Named “Young & Gifted”
At Richland Northeast High School, we often talk about the power of the “village.” This week, that village grew even larger as we celebrated a remarkable milestone: 60 of our seniors were officially recognized by the Columbia Urban League during their annual Young & Gifted Awards.
The Young & Gifted program is a prestigious tradition that has spanned nearly four decades. It is more than just a ceremony; it is a statewide spotlight on African American high school seniors who demonstrate exceptional preparation, performance, and perseverance.
What Does it Mean to be “Young & Gifted”?
The Columbia Urban League selects honorees based on their excellence across several pillars:
- Academics: Maintaining a 3.0 GPA or higher.
- Leadership: Serving as role models within the school and community.
- The Arts & Athletics: Excelling in creative and physical disciplines.
- STEM: Highlighting students who are paving the way in science and technology.
For our 60 Cavaliers, this recognition serves as a “confidence enhancer,” a term often used by Urban League President James T. McLawhorn, Jr. to describe the boost students feel when their hard work is validated by the broader community.
