The National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA) has named its individual national finalists and Richland Northeast has several. This is a highly competitive competition and CavPlex students consistently show they are at the national level. Winners will be announced in St. Louis next month. And the finalists are…

- Broadcast Feature Story of the Year: New To America, Deim Marion Gannaban and Evan Cano; Band Auxilary, Kamea Hosendove, Mark Smith, and Tyler Stodghill
- Broadcast Commentary of the Year: Hair Discrimination. Jazmin Fletcher and Alani Hamilton’ School Safety, Mary Jayne Davis and Kamea Hosendove
Apply Today, Bezos Scholars Program

The Bezos Scholars Program application is now open, and we want to share more about this amazing opportunity! There’s no experience like the Bezos Scholars Program—a transformative, year-long, no-cost leadership development program that amplifies youth voice and action so young people with passion can start making a difference today. Each year, 17 high school juniors and an educator from each of their schools are selected from across the United States and Africa as Bezos Scholars.
The program is open to juniors at Richland Northeast High School along with a school staff member they nominate as their educator, who participates alongside them throughout the program. Successful applicants have a strong commitment to their education and demonstrate maturity, curiosity, perseverance, and leadership. Those who are selected receive:
- An all-expenses-paid trip to Aspen, Colorado
- 40+ hours of leadership skill-building
- Unlimited coaching hours from the Bezos Scholars staff team
- FREE college advising
- $1,000 in funding to launch a community change project
Halloween Supply & Demand

Mr. Butler’s Economics class participated in a real-world lesson on Supply and Demand got a little interesting. Some of his students got rich (paper money) selling Halloween candy to any and everybody. Even Mr. Butler, their teacher, was not excluded from this activity and had to purchase candy from one of them.
