Have You Submitted Your POR?

Are you aware that you must submit Proof of Residence (POR) and complete your Annual Registration every school year? Did you know that without an updated POR, your child may be withdrawn from the school? Are you aware that you can complete your Annual Registration and submit your PORs using your Parent Portal account? If you haven’t already, please submit your 2023-2024 information today.

If you need assistance completing the online annual registration process, please attend one of Richland Two’s Annual Registration Assistance Nights (ARN) this summer. This process includes providing proof of residence, verifying student information, and reviewing and completing forms. Families will have access to computers, the internet, district staff, and interpreters. If you are unable to attend one of these sessions, make an appointment with our school Registrar, Ms. Brooks (albrooks@richland2.org or 803.699.2900 ext 79827)

2023 Summer Meals Schedule

Cavalier Receives Dominion Energy Writing Contest

Congratulations to GEAR UP Class of 2023, La’Deja Williams. Not only was she the only student in South Carolina to receive a cash scholarship from the Sons of the American Revolution, she was also selected as the Midlands winner of the third annual Strong Men & Women in SC history student writing contest sponsored by Dominion Energy. La’Deja won a cash prize and a MacBook Air. Mrs. Sansonetti-Wood, our GEAR UP Coordinator, and La’Deja would like to thank Mr. Serafine for hosting his writing workshop for this scholarship in November for all GEAR UP students. Click the image above to read WACH Fox story.

They are offering an annual scholarship to deserving student-athletes, regardless of which sport they play or what their capacity in that sport is. The successful applicant will be a high school senior currently involved in some sport at that institution or in the community. End of Year Medication Pick Up

If your child has any medications stored in the Health Room, please pick them up by 12 noon TODAY (Friday, June 2, 2023). Medications are not held over the summer. Please contact Nurse Peck to arrange the pick up of all medications. Any medicines left beyond the deadline will be destroyed. 

If your child is attending a summer program in Richland 2, please reach out to Nurse Peck to make arrangements for their medicines.  Parents will be responsible for picking up and transporting the medications from their child’s regular school to the program location.

Credit Recovery and FAs

Students who fail a course with a grade between 50-59 may recover the credit for the course by completing work through Credit Recovery. If your student fails a course within this grade range they will be contacted by Dr. Monique Flowers with instructions on how to complete the coursework. Credit Recovery will be offered via an online program called Edgenuity. Students may come to school for assistance on Tuesday mornings from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. or Thursday afternoons from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Please note – Not all courses will be eligible for Credit Recovery.

Attendance does matter for all classes. There are state-mandated seat-time requirements in order to earn the credit for the course for which the student is enrolled. Students who have not been present in class for the required amount of time will receive a Failure Due to Attendance. It will be denoted as an FA on the report card. Students may serve Seat Time to earn back the credit. Students will be required to come to campus to serve their seat time, complete seat time assignments related to the FA course, and pay a fee. The fee is $20 per hour of seat time. Example: – One class = 1.5 hours at a cost of $30. If your child has an FA, they will serve seat time during the month of June. They will receive an email from Mr. William Clark during the week of June 5th. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Mr. Clark (wilclark@richland2.org).

Missed Your EOC

Students who missed their EOC will report to the Multipurpose Room Tuesday, May 30th, or Wednesday, May 31st. Please remember that End-of-Course exams count 20% of students’ final average in their EOC class (Algebra 1, Intermediate Algebra, Biology 1, English 2, and U.S. History). Students who did not take their EOC last week received a zero on the exam. The zero will be removed once students take their makeup EOC. Students who missed the exam will receive an email from Dr. Flowers.

End-of-Year Information

Yes, you made it. It’s the end of the school year. With this being the last week of school, we want to make sure our students and parents have all of the information needed to finalize the school year.

Exams:

• Students who missed the state-required End-of-Course exam will receive an email from Dr. Flowers.
• All other final exams can be made up with the classroom teacher through June 2nd. Students must have a valid excuse in order to make up the exam. This includes a medical note for an illness or an obituary for a funeral. 

Grades/Report Cards

• Quarter 4 ends on Friday, June 2nd
• Students who want to make up work will need to talk to their teachers to determine what work they are allowed to submit by June 2nd.
• Students cannot make up any work from previous quarters.
• Report Cards will be mailed on Wednesday, June 7th. Final grades will be available on Parent Portal on Sunday, June 4th.

Grade Level Classifications

• Students are promoted to the next grade level based on the following requirements.
  • Freshmen: less than 5 high school credits
  • Sophomore: earned at least 5 credits that include 1 Math & 1 English credit
  • Junior: earned at least 11 credits that include 2 Math & 2 English credit
  • Senior: earned at least 17 credits that include 1 Math & 1 English credit
